NEW YEAR WINTER PEST EPISODE — NATURAL EXTENDED VERSION

Hi everyone, and welcome back to Bug Talk. I’m your host, Ryan Haynes with Haynes Pest Control — proudly serving homeowners in Sebring, Avon Park, Lake Placid, and communities across Highlands County, along with nearby areas like Lake Wales in Polk County.

As we kick off a brand-new year and get past the busy holiday season, a lot of families here in Central Florida are settling back into everyday life again. The weather has been a little cooler lately — at least for Florida — and this time of year feels calm, relaxed, and a little quieter around the house. But even during these cooler months in Sebring, Avon Park, and Lake Wales, pest activity doesn’t disappear. In many cases, it simply shifts indoors where things are warmer and more comfortable.

When temperatures drop outside, pests like rodents, roaches, spiders, and occasional invaders start looking for safe places to hide. That often means attics, garages, storage areas, or wall voids. We see this a lot right after the holidays, when people are bringing decorations down from the attic or moving boxes around in the garage — and that’s usually when signs of activity become a little easier to spot.

Across neighborhoods in Highlands County and Polk County, we also notice moisture-related pests moving toward kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms during cooler weather. And while some insects slow down this time of year, others — like ants — can stay active all winter long here in Central Florida.

That’s why the start of the year is a great time to schedule a winter pest control inspection. During an inspection, our team looks for entry points, attic activity, cracks around the exterior, and any conditions that might attract pests in our climate. Catching issues now — while things are calm — can help prevent bigger problems as we head toward spring and warmer weather.

So if you’re in Sebring, Avon Park, Lake Placid, or Lake Wales, and you’ve noticed noises in the attic, droppings, roaches indoors, or you just want a little extra peace of mind going into the new year, we’d be happy to help you out.

Thanks for joining us for our first episode of the year. We appreciate you listening — and as always… if it crawls or flies, we’re your guys.
